Contrast Study Preparation:
- For MRI contrast studies, there is a need for a CREAT blood draw for patients 50 years and over. Please ask that the results be promptly faxed to us (our fax number is #419-841-2711).
- For CT contrast studies, it will depend on the type of CT study you are having:
- The patient may require barium (RediCat/oral contrast). This is used for CT’s of the abdomen/pelvis only. The patient should get the barium from their physician or from our office.
- Some CT exams may require an IV contrast (dye). Please see the instructions below.
IV Contrast Instructions:
These instructions apply to CT’s and MRI’s ordered with IV contrast, and for IVP exams.
- Is the patient diabetic? Is the patient 50 years or over? If either or both, the patient needs CREAT blood draw and lab results prior to the contrast study.
- If the patient is diabetic, are they on Glucophage or any other meds with Metformin? If yes, they should discuss the following with their physician. Glucophage should be discontinued the day of the exam and for the following 48 hours. The patient must check with their physician prior to resuming Glucophage.
- Does the patient have any allergies? If yes, please let us know what they are.
- Are there any previous X-rays? If so, when and from where?
