A Legacy of Caring, The History of Consulting Radiologists Corporation

The origin of our group could possibly be traced back to WWI.  A retired CRC physician attests to seeing radiation charts from 1918.  In the early 1960s, the name of CAPMAS was given to the group, derived from the initials of several members.

s – The first outpatient office was located on Michigan Avenue in downtown Toledo, offering fluoroscopy, x-rays and radiation services.  The radiologists were on staff at St. Vincent Hospital (now known as St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center).

– The expanding group changed its name to Consulting Radiologists Corporation (CRC); an affiliation with the Medical College of Ohio begins as CRC provides training for the radiology residency program.

s – CRC joins the staff of Riverside Hospital and Mercy Hospital.  An expansion of services (including ultrasound and nuclear medicine) requires the closing of the Michigan avenue office and a move to the Physicians & Surgeons building on Central Avenue.

– Growth again requires CRC to move to Regency Park on Talmadge road.  The 7,315 square foot facility (including CT and mammography services operated by St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center) is called Regency Imaging Center.  CRC schedules an on-site radiologist to be available for consults and prompt interpretations for referring physicians and their patients.

– CRC installs the first independent outpatient MRI machine.  Regency Imaging Cneter becomes the first full-service outpatient imaging center to offer x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography, CT and MRI.

– CRC adds teleradiology capability to Regency, allowing for images to be transmitted electronically;  the CRC website is created.

– Due to need, MRI services are expanded with the addition of a 1.5 Signa scanner.  Features include MRA and MRCP capabilities, as well as enhanced Diffusion Weighted Imaging capabilities.

– CT services are launched with the additional of a Multislice CT scanner.

– 3D ultrasound imaging is made available with the upgrade to a new ultrasound unit.

– Toledo’s Most Patient Friendly Open MRI is installed, replacing CRC’s original scanner.

– The implementation of PACS services begins;  the CT scanner is replaced with a 64-slice CT scanner.

– Screening studies are now offered, including Virtual Colonoscopy and Coronary CTA.
