THE REGENCY MEDICAL CAMPUS KICKS OFF PROJECT FOOD NOW TO BENEFIT THE UNEMPLOYED MEMBERS OF TOLEDO AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
May 15, 2009 TOLEDO, OH— May is PROJECT FOOD NOW month for offices on The Regency Medical Campus. Collection containers have been placed in waiting rooms, employee lunch rooms and building entrance ways for donations of canned goods, paper products and personal hygiene products. The month long joint collection effort was organized to benefit the recently unemployed members of the community, and the agencies that routinely assist people in need.
“Talk in the lunchroom used to focus on social news such as what plans everyone had for the weekend,” says Kim Mangan, a registered CT technologist at Consulting Radiologists Corporation, one of 17 medical practices and/or health related services on campus. “During the past six months, the talk has shifted focus to conversations about the economy, and who we know that’s unemployed. It’s no longer just someone you hear about on the news, but it’s our neighbors, our family members, our friends and so on. In some cases, it may even be a fellow employee right in our own office that needs help because their spouse is out of work. We felt that as a group, we could do something to help”.
Donations are being accepted during the entire month, with the final collection day being Saturday, May 30th. Flyers about the collection are being distributed to other businesses in the general area, and employees are being encouraged to not only collect contributions, but to also submit the names of organizations that want to apply to see be a recipient of the donations. The items will be given to a limited number of randomly selected organizations for their own distribution. Organizations that would like to be considered should contact Vicki at the Surgery Center at Regency Park, at #419-885-7052.
Volunteers from the offices on The Regency Medical Campus are also offering to pick-up any donations. They can be contacted by calling the same number listed above.
